RetroFoam Installed in Brick Siding in Avon Lake, OH
Challenge
A homeowner in Avon Lake, OH had a home built in 1973. Despite installing a new furnace and heat pumps, the house was still cold and uncomfortable. They had been living there for 24 years and realized they needed a permanent solution to properly insulating the home. They found that Primary Home Improvements could insulate their walls without the mess of a demolition and was quickly scheduled for a free in-home estimate!
On the day of the estimate, Kevin the energy consultant, assessed the insulation around the home. He used a thermal imaging gun to see how cold the walls of the home were. They showed blue and purple which meant they were much chillier than the rest of the house. Kevin explained that the customer's home would be a great fit for RetroFoam injection foam insulation in the exterior walls. The customer was looking forward to their upcoming install date!
Solution
On the day of the install, the wall crew arrived and explained their process to the customer in a walkthrough. Once done, they prepped the brick siding for RetroFoam by drilling small holes between the mortar. This allows the specialized equipment to shoot RetroFoam injection foam into the holes and between the wall cavities. RetroFoam is a tripolymer resin that comes out like shaving cream, filling the entire wall, and then hardening after about 48 hours. After injection foam hardens, the wall is now draft-resistant and has an R-Value that will never settle over time. To finish the install, the crew matched the mortar and re-applied to the holes made in order to seal the RetroFoam in the walls. Done in one, easy installation day, this homeowner was so relieved to finally have an insulated and comfortable home.
