Full Attic Restoration in Hinckley, OH
Challenge
A homeowner in Hinckley, OH ran into a racoon problem in his attic. They made a home there and a mess! He needed the attic cleaned and re-insulated in order to have a clean and energy-efficient space again. He began doing research online for local, trusted insulation companies that would not only extract, but would put batting on the walls as well as blow in cellulose all over the attic. He found that Primary Home Improvements was his reputable and expert insulation company. He was quickly scheduled with an in-home estimate.
Kevin, the energy consultant, arrived and went to the attic to assess the issues. He noticed that the racoons had flattened the existing cellulose on the attic floor, making it dysfunctional and gross. Kevin also took note that there was no insulation on the walls of the attic. Drafts were entering the cracks and gaps of this attic. The energy consultant sat down with the customer and explained that extraction, air sealing, batten and cellulose insulation would be the solution to this pesky attic.
Solution
On the day of the project, the attic crew arrived to get started. The first step in repairing this attic was extracting all of the old cellulose. They used a high-powered machine to suck all of the yucky, deteriorated cellulose out. This allows the installers to work with a blank canvas and create a healthier space. After extraction, they worked diligently to lay down a plywood floor along the entirety of the attic floor. Plywood is used to protect the joists and provide a stable surface for the blown-in cellulose to evenly lay. Next, they securely attached batten insulation to all of the attic walls. Batten provides thermal efficiency and helps to reduce heat transfer. Together with the blown-in cellulose, the batten will create that extra point of protection and insulation. Finally, once the batten was placed, the installers blew-in Tru-Soft cellulose onto the attic floor. Tru-Soft is a dense and effective product that gives high R-Value. R-Value is the measurement of how a material rejects heat transfer. For this customer, Tru-Soft was blown in at a R-49 value, which will be successful in insulating the home properly.
This customer was so excited to have an insulated and clean attic, all in a one-day install!
