Knee Walls Insulated in Solon, OH
Challenge
A customer in Solon, OH wasn't sure how to insulate their attic. On one hand, they wanted to keep the storage space available, but on the other hand they needed to regulate the home's temperatures in order to make it more comfortable and energy-efficient. Their attic had lots of knee walls that were also allowing drafts into the rest of the home. They called Primary Home Improvements as their local and trusted insulation company and was promptly scheduled a free in-home estimate.
Solution
The energy consultant arrived to the estimate and began observing the attic space. He recommended that cellulose be blown into the knee walls in order to keep the storage space available, but also insulate the attic. Knee walls are short walls that support rafters in a roof. These areas are important to insulate because a large amount of drafts enter through the rafters and through the knee walls. If correctly done, insulation in knee walls will stop air leakage to the rest of the home. The customer was happy with this solution and was signed up for a project date.
On the day of install, the attic crew began their work on the customer's space. They began by prepping the knee wall areas with a barrier on the outside in order to keep the blown-in insulation within the space. They then began to feed Tru-Soft cellulose into the high-powered machine. This allows the material to be broken up so that it creates a more densely-packed result in the attic. The crew made sure to fill the knee walls to a consistent and high R-Value. Once finished insulating, the installers cleaned up the work area and did a final walkthrough with the homeowner. This customer was excited to have a functional and insulated attic!
